  • Material Projects Space 6 Market St Ellenville US (map)

Ellenville, NY will host a tightly-curated invitational of four women/non-binary artists—three based in Upstate and one invited from the UK. Our curator, Judith Rodgers is UK-based, and has collaborated on this project with artist Kelly M O’Brien since 2019, where Kelly lived.

Invited artists:

Lydia Halcrow engages deeply with materiality in response to human traces in our landscapes, decay of post-industrial structures, and coastal erosion. The work spans print, drawing, installation and painting, made through repeated walks in fragile environments, which are rapidly flooding and eroding into rivers and seas https://www.lydiahalcrow.com/

Choro (clear dew) is a practitioner of Zen Buddhism and deeply connected to the natural world. Cultivating stillness, looking deeply into the nature of things, and living a life of non harming provide the landscape of Choro’s life. Meticulous and pain-staking abstract drawings with handmade natural inks on paper are the core of their practice https://choroartxx.com

Kelly M O’Brien explores themes of care and repair related to climate change and biodiversity. The materials O’Brien works with—plant-based and biodegradable—are at the heart of her practice. Kelly’s work draws out themes around ecological uncertainty and relational entanglement, navigating and holding complex ideas lightly and nimbly https://www.kellyobrien.art/

Soli Pierce’s interdisciplinary practice is informed by shape, line, and light. Her current collaboration with sonic composer Bruce Odland, Sound Forest, has recently been installed at KinoSaito, Janet Langsam Vault Project ArtsWestchester Gallery, and the Hammond Museum https://www.solipierce.com/

Judith Rodger’s curation brings together and explores entanglements. She is passionate about engendering new possibilities and perspectives, holding space for inquiry, ritual, and hospitality https://www.judithrodgers.co.uk/

Material Projects Space https://www.kellyobrien.art/material-projects will host the exhibition and programming: sound performance, nature writers reading circle, artist talks, and gallery crawl with nearby venues, including a Steven Harvey Gallery pop-up across the street. We are excited to participate in UAW 2025 and look forward to making a meaningful contribution to this year’s overall programming.
